This new parking structure for the East Village of downtown Des Moines, Iowa is a truly unique urban design accomplishment. With Nelson assets e300 apartments and 430 East Grand adjacent to this site, Nelson went to work acquiring land from the City of Des Moines, as well as a neighboring church. This engineering marvel is carved into a hillside that takes advantage of natural grade changes to provide three levels of parking that do not connect with each other, allowing each level to act as a uniquely programmed use.
Floor one is leased by the City of Des Moines to provide hourly public parking. Floor two provides apartment residents in the neighborhood with a much-needed parking option. Floor three provides nearby office buildings with parking for their employees, as well as providing parking for the neighboring church congregation on evenings and Sundays.
